Can You Hear Me Now? A review on my new ERKA stethoscope!

As a student, it can be challenging to pick up on the many details that go into a diagnosis, specifically the internal noises. Upon matriculation into school, I was gifted my first ever stethoscope! I felt SO official! Yet, I soon found picking up the different sounds of the lungs, hearts, and bowels were tricky to me…and I felt really unsure when listening to a standardized patient.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently went on a medical mission trip to Belize. Prior to this, I was gifted a new stethoscope from Medelita. This stethoscope, the ERKA precise, made my trip even more memorable than what I could have imagined. Every day in clinic, we had large crowds show up which meant lots and lots of noise! I was a bit nervous about this…if I couldn’t pick up noises in a quiet clinic at home how in the world was I going to hear anything with all the background noise in Belize?! From day one, my confidence began to build because every noise I listened to was crystal clear! From listening to blood pressures, to hearing systolic ejection murmurs, to even diagnosing pneumonia based off rales…I felt like this stethoscope really made a huge difference in bringing along my clinical skills, and my confidence as a PA student.

The clarity of their instruments are amazing…and they are durable too! The children in Belize were so incredibly curious and amazed by my stethoscope and wanted to play around with it. I can attest that after 5 full days of children playing with my stethoscope, this thing is built to last and doesn’t even have a scratch in it!!

So if you’re looking for a new stethoscope I HIGHLY recommend looking into the ERKA brand. You can buy it here at this link: https://www.medelita.com/stethoscopes.html.

Yes, it is true that a stethoscope does not make the clinician, but it sure does bring your confidence a long way when you have the right tools to help you do the job.
